1a)What are the persona’s feeling described in the first three stanzas of the poem?
He is feeling enraged. He used the word “quarry” to show that he has a vast knowledge but it can also mean that the poet is the predator and the students are the prey. The poet used the phrase “I am sick” to tell us that he is tired and disgusted of the students but it can also mean that he has an illness. The poet then used the pun “will” to tell us that he does not have any desire to teach his students but it can also mean that he does not want to do so.
The poet used the metaphor “unruly hounds” to refer to his students as they are rowdy and restless during his class. “My last drop of fuel” tells us that the persona has only a last drop of energy left and cannot continue. The poet used the metaphor “several insults of blotted pages” to tell us that his students’ works were an insult to his intelligence and does not deserved to be marked by him as he felt that they did not respect him.
The two words, “apart” and “start” are associated together to tell us that the students does not want to learn which causes the persona’s frustration and anger. Then the poet used the word “of” 3 times to make the poem more dramatic and forceful to the readers.The words “soul “ and “toll” are used to emphasize that the poet is very angry.
1b) How is the tone of anger illustrated in this poem?
The poet used the diction in “leash” to show that he is trying to pull the students back into the classroom like an owner pulling his dog on a leash which shows that the persona is enraged.
The poet had also used the diction “hounds” to suggest that the students were behaving very much like dogs ,restless and repulsive ,like an animal .
“brunt” shows us that the persona is not able to withstand the pressure from the work and uses “brunt” to portray a forceful image and that he is sick of teaching his students and does not want to continue.
Finally, the poet uses “scrawl” instead of write to show how slipshod the students did their work and that he cannot take it anymore that the students do not respect him and he is frustrated at how the students treat him.
In the poem, the writer uses a lot of forceful words like “will”, showing that he is angry at the student’s indifference .

Bee-eating hornets invade

PARIS - FRANCE is facing an invasion of bee-eating Chinese hornets which could hasten the mysterious decline in the honey-bee population and threaten bee-keepers' livelihoods, researchers said on Tuesday.

Colonies of Asian hornets, or Vespa velutina, have spread rapidly in southwestern France, a region popular with tourists, and are likely to reach other European countries soon.

'More and more of them are coming and they're colonising France,' Quentin Rome, a researcher at the National History Museum in Paris, told Reuters.

The three centimetre-long insects, recognisable by their orange heads and yellow feet, probably arrived in France on a boat carrying ceramic goods from China, researchers believe.

The first hornets were observed in France in 2004, and the most recent study recorded 1,100 nests across the country. The hornet is now firmly established near Bordeaux and has advanced as far north as parts of Brittany in northwestern France.

The hornet is not yet present in other European countries, but will probably spread across the continent, he added.

Last week six people were hospitalised after being stung near a nest in the Lot-et-Garonne department in southwest France, prompting local authorities to warn allergy sufferers to be on their guard.

Although the hornets are not more aggressive or dangerous for humans than their European cousins, the size of the colonies, inhabiting nests measuring up to one metre in height, means the risk of attacks is higher, Mr Rome said.

Three or four hornets can wipe out an entire beehive in 48 hours, but bee-keeping associations do not yet know how serious a threat the hornets pose for their industry, which is already facing a mysterious decline in bee numbers worldwide.

Scientists have already expressed alarm at the mysterious and rapid decline in the number of bees, which could seriously harm agriculture because of the reduction in pollination of numerous crops. -- REUTERS

REVIEW
This article is about a type of bee -eating hornets who came to europe and started to eat the local bees up and threatened to cause them to go extinct.
After reading this article, I was shocked that the hornets were eating up the bees. Bees are very important to the world as not only do they produce the mouth watering honey, but they also pollinate the flowers and without them, the whole ecosystem will be unbalanced.
There is a type of bird that eats bees (bee-eater) and if there are no bees left, the bird will go extinct and once these birds go extinct, the snakes that eat these birds will die out too and so on.
This incident also shows how we have affected the world. Before any form of transport was formed, there were no people moving about, the ecosystem was very stable as animals were unable to travel from continent to continent.Thus; the animals adapted to their surroundings and became exclusive to their continent or region.
However, when we arrived, we started to travel between continent to continent, and unwittingly brought along some animals.these animals then colonized the new territory and destroyed the animals that lived there as they had no immunity towards this new diseases or defence against these new animals.

Jack Prelutsky was born in Brooklyn, in 1940, and attended Hunter College in New York City. Although he claims to have hated poetry through most of his childhood, he rediscovered poetry later in life, and has devoted many years since to writing fresh, humorous poetry aimed specifically at kids.

Long Long Long time since I last posted a blog post.

I thought it ended in term one,but it seems that it didn't

Four days ago,on Wednesday,The Annual Combined Sports Meet organised by NY-HCI started in the wee hours of the morning .The crowds of girls poured through the hates of Hwa Chong,and people were getting hyped up about the upcoming races.

For me,The CSM wasn't a very anticipated event,as we had to spend a few gruelling hours under the hot morning sun,while the SEC 2,3&4 SITS IN THE SHADE!

(none of my friends went to NY,so I wasn't planning to look for anybody.)

So the CSM started with a performance by NCC ,which looked like a bunch

of boys doing the para para,which looked pretty dumb.But I am in no position to

criticise,and that is what they are doing in NCC,and my friends are there too,so

I would be criticising my poor friends.

Then Max decided to get a cardboard writing "Free Hugs" on it and started

walking around like some Despo Idiot!!!

[He got hugged four times by NY girls and a lot more times by HCi boys]

So Max tried to get some hugs while I sat in the sun trying to be enthu. about the

whole cheering thing while actually I was secretly wishing for the time to move faster and

be able to go home.

Then news spread that there was FREE ICED MILO!!It was obvious what we did.

Running faster than the wind,we (me,Yong Kiat,Donovan,and Shui Herngy-herng)rushed

to the Milo van for a cup of fresh,refreshing milo that was the size of a sample cup

in food fests,but that was enough to keep us satisfied for about a millisecond.~.~

So we waited for the Popsicles to arrive.and they did,but not after Donovan

Shui Herng and Yong Kiat suddenly vanished and when I next saw them they had all

got a Popsicle.In my hurry,I did not realise that we were cheated of our money

by buying that as it was a FREAKING $1 for a little stick which you could buy a

bag of that for around $1/$2 !!!!!

Then the bad things started happening.

Jared poured Coke on my head.

I fell and a sustained a big and lousy cut on my leg.It hurt like how it hurt

when you fall from a bike and graze yourself.

Lost my bottle after washing my wound with it.

And worst of all....

I might Fail prelims 2!!

you may think ,what big deal is that,but I will die if I do so!!I spent a

lot of time on it and it would be such a waste to do so.

And that ended my lousy day @ the CSM,

with coke in my hair and a bleeding cut on my leg,a bottle missing and a sad look

on my sad face.

We went to the TKK drama 2 days ago and i am finally here to blog about it.

Two days ago we got a ticket to go to the TAN KAH KEE drama @ victoria theatre .

@ around 7:30pm,

we met outside the theatre and got ready to go in.

we went to our row @ dd19,second floor where the view was dam* good!!!!

finally tht drama started and we prepared to sleep.

I am the president of the Activist's club in Singapore,and I am here to speak to you about the nonchalant attitude you students have in regard towards enviromental issues.Firstly,I think that you all are getting more and more irresponsible intaking care of the enviroment.In one day,I have already seen a lot of people throwing rubbish on the floor like it was their home and there was a maid to help them pick the rubbish up.This is not beneficial to the enviroment and it is polluting the enviroment.For example,when you throw plastic bags into the water,turtles might mistake them for jellyfish and eat them.you might think that they will just pass them out,but you are wrong. The turtles will suffocate when they eat them.Thus,the death rate of turtles are increasing.

Also,pollution of the enviroment endanger the organisms and cause endangered species to go extinct.What type of world do you want to leave for the next generation?

Thus,I hope you can protect the enviroment.

Blog Prompt: the human body today is laden with processed food that is bad for it.Discuss this with particular reference to your own diet.

Processed foods are everywhere nowadays. We are eating them every time you open the fridge for a glass of milk and when you go to MacDonald's.there is virtually no place that you will not come in contact with processed food .processed food may be good or bad for your health.For example,now the sweets,milk,Barbecued pork all has been processed at least once.To get a food stuff that has not been processed ,you would have to grow it yourself.

How the Dam affects the people's lives

The building of the dam has caused a lot of the villagers that live near to the river to be relocated,losing a lot of their history.
the unique way they build their buildings or the unique way they do something might be lost (eg:the coffins put on cliffs near the river would get swallowed by the rising water.)
During the building of the dam, a lot of pollutants would be released into the air,causing in air pollution and the surroundings to be polluted.
The Three Gorges Dam will cause the water to be held back, so drought might happen downstream

Economic impact of the Three Gorges Dam

More tourists will visit the Dam as now the water is deeper and the boats can go higher upstream to see more beautiful scenery.
Electricity is generated and the city will be able to get a clean source of power that will not pollute the environment.

I am here to address you on a problem that is happening in the sea outside Japan.Apparently,the Japanese are fishing for whales in the sea for some kind of"research".However,it seems that the meat is then sold to fishermen for them to sell.This is very saddening as everybody knows that whales are now an endangered species due to over hunting.The Japanese are normally perceived as very environmentally friendly people,what they are doing now is very contrasting to what they normally do.As such, we must protect the cutesy Whales From the attack of the evil JAPANESE!!!!!!!!!!
